Your brain is the most protected organ in your body.
It isn’t only surrounded by the thick bones of the skull and the cerebrospinal fluid, but there are also specialized blood vessels forming a barrier between your blood circulation and the internal environment of the brain.
This blood-brain barrier is closely regulated and when intact allows only small molecules and special cells that nourish the brain to get through.
Toxic substances, however, can damage this protective barrier making it too permeable or “leaky” and let larger molecules to cross over through the walls of the vessels and into the brain.
This can start the onset of inflammation and may have a negative impact on your brain health and its function.
